Who we are
We are a peer-support chat for self-injurers and people with mental health issues. Our goal is to provide a safe place where people can feel less alone and talk to others with similar experiences and feelings.
Generally speaking, we are pro-recovery; however you do not have to be ready to make changes to join #bus, and many of our members aren’t. Within the “pro-recovery” mindset, we ask that you not actively discourage others from stopping or seeking help, though.
We are not a suicide resource. If you are feeling actively suicidal we ask that you seek help elsewhere, as the people in this chat aren’t trained to help in such situations. None of the staff or members are acting in this channel as trained professionals, and this chat is not meant as a substitute for professional help.
How we began
This site originated from another online community also named BUS, or Bodies Under Siege http://buslist.org/phpBB/, which was a peer support resource for people who self harm. For many years, the online chat room and http://buslist.org/ were operated together, but eventually the chat became its own thing. In time, the chat has evolved from strictly a self-harm support room to a place where anyone struggling with mental health issues could talk.
